Cognitive inflexibility and the development and use of strategies for solving complex dynamic problems. Effects of different types of training

چکیده
Performance in dynamic complex problem task is affected by Cognitive Inflexibility. People are sometimes unable to adapt their strategies to the unexpected changes in their surroundings. This cognitive inflexibility only affects the person's execution when environmental changes are relevant for a particular problem solving strategy that people are using. This paper describes a new methodology to detect cognitive flexibility in the use of strategies, and it presents an experiment designed to test the hypothesis proving that the type of training affects cognitive flexibility.

An account of cognitive flexibility and inflexibility for a complex dynamic task
Problem solving involves adapting known problem solving methods and strategies to the task at hand (Schunn & Reder, 2001) and cognitive flexibility is considered to be “the human ability to adapt the cognitive processing strategies to face new and unexpected conditions of the environment” (Cañas et al., 2005, p. 95). This work presents an ACT-R 6.0 model of complex problem solving behavior for ...
